Explicit lyrics

November 19, 2017

The other day I was rejected by a British radio station playing my music because I sing "motherfucker" at one point. I do have other songs where I don't swear but I think I might have put them off at that time. Anyway, most indie radio stations don't really mind swear words so It did surprise me a bit since I'm not the only one who uses the full palette of the English language.

One of my biggest idols Frank Zappa once said:

“There is no such thing as a dirty word. Nor is there a word so powerful, that it's going to send the listener to the lake of fire upon hearing it.”

I couldn't agree more. I don't think there's any reason at all to censor oneself because "someone might get offended". It's just words and it's used for a reason. For emphasis or just fucking because. If it's good music it should be played. It should be out there.

And besides I remember being a kid and seeing the parental advisory sticker on CD's. And it made it so much for appealing. Don't you agree? ;)

xoxo,

Caroline
